Handicap Solidaire Burkina (HSB) is a locally registered NGO situated in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso, but it works throughout the national territory. Founded in 2002 by partner organisation Handicap Solidaire Suisse, HSB is an organisation run by disabled people that works for disabled people. HSB recognises that problems faced by disabled people in Burkina Faso are multiple and of multiple origin. Problems include long term collective negative attitudes towards disabled people in Burkinabe society, marginalisation, a lack of representation at policy-making level, inaccessible public services etc. HSB recognises that this multiplicity of problems requires an equally multifaceted strategy to affect change. HSB’s strategy therefore includes a number of projects aimed at people with disabilities, and you can find out more about them in the Projects drop-down menu above.
